Gamini Ratnavira

Hola! We just wanted to share a few of our favorite memories of our visit with Gary and Daisy Vaucher, clients and friends of ours in Panama. We enjoyed
every moment from the cloud forests on the Costa Rican border, to the deep lush rain forest on the Columbian border that we accessed by Gary's helicopter.

We visited the canal, the ruins, Barro Colorado Island via Ferry; a Smithsonian research Island. We observed quetzals, trogons, toucans, macaws, and a host of tropical hummingbirds, and finally Gamini's trees!

Ode to the Guardians of the Rain Forest..

The trees here outnumber man..powerful and protective
They host his nourishment, his medicine, the past, present and his future
A living host to all... they make known their presence with creeks and cracks
And crashing announcements;
In awe they stand yeilding to rains and wind..
a beautiful strength man is too busy destroying
To comprehend....

Finally we will leave you with a rain forest poem, and above and to your left are Gamini's field sketches that he drew on site! Also, please check out our Panama Friendly Neighbors!

Panamanian Poetry
By Lisa Warner Albright

In Panama…
Here when the rain begins
The winds chime in
And the tropical breezes
Entice you
The warmth soothes
Your hurried soul
Reminding you to drink in
All of its wonder
As well as the water you taste

As it quenches you
The sounds of birds calling
And trees dancing
Caress you like a lullaby
Yes, Panama is the kind of place
That will inspire the weary
And heal the pain of
Our hurried pursuit
In a way
That leaves one
Understanding the interconnectedness
Of all life forms
Is in the essence of the rain forest.
